The course is scenic and challenging with beautiful greens and fairways that follow the Batavia Kill and magnificent views of the Great Northern Catskills. Designed in 1928, the golf course and clubhouse has undergone restoration under the ownership of Windham Mountain, returning the Club to its former glory while maintaining its longstanding heritage.

It’s great for new or aspiring golfers because there is the Roland Stafford Golf Schools that offer wonderful and innovative Golf instruction and teaching methods. After taking a year off, winter has returned to the Catskill Mountains. We’ve had cold weather and snow since Thanksgiving, which is a welcome change from last year. According to the weatherman, we did have average snowfall this winter. There were over 2 feet of snow on the ground at one point, and the kids enjoyed every minute outside. Winter is coming to an end, and the weather is already starting to change. As we sit down to write this letter the weatherman is predicting we’ll have a record high-temperature today. 70o in February is very unusual for us.

With great sadness, we need to let everyone know that Joanne’s daughter, Krystal, passed away in January.  She had beaten Breast Cancer a few years earlier, but this last year cancer got into her liver and spread before chemo could get ahead of it.  Krystal was a young, hard working, ICU Nurse at Albany Medical Center for 20 years and is greatly missed by her many friends and relatives.

Here at The Thompson House, we’ve kept busy doing various renovations around the property, some roofs, and some bathrooms. Currently, we’re working in the Manor House redesigning some spaces to make better use of all that area.

We’re grateful for all the guests who were able to join us last summer. Whether it was to be part of a reunion, play golf, go hiking, or just relax by the pool, we hope you enjoyed your time in the Great Northern Catskills. It was also great to have you be part of our Thompson House “family.”

We are all blessed to be in good health. John and Mickey still go out for their exercise daily. They’re also busy helping volunteer organizations in the community and visiting friends and neighbors that can’t get out anymore. Although they no longer take their annual trip down south, they do enjoy short excursions with a local senior club and going off on their own.

Just last week we were excited to celebrate Aiden’s 1st birthday. He’s very fast on his feet and likes to get into everything. He’s doing his best to keep up with Maddox and Lada, and they’ll be running the games before you know it.

Deb and Eric are enjoying having their grandchildren over. They’ve forgotten how much fun it is to have little ones running around the house, and how exhausting it is.

Dasha, Kurt, Maddox, and Aiden went to Russia in November to celebrate Dasha’s Grandmother’s 90th birthday. It was Aiden’s first trip to Russia, and Maddox enjoyed introducing his little brother to everyone.

Brent and Evan are both doing well. Brent is finding out all the wonders of being a homeowner and making daily trips to the hardware store. Evan decided he wanted to spend his winter in Windham and has been working at Windham Mountain as a “Ski Technician.” His plan was to spend the winter snowboarding, but that came to an end when he broke his wrist snowboarding over Christmas Vacation.  The surgeon was pleased with his work, and he hopes for a full recovery.

Our doors open on May 26th this year for our 137th season, and hope you, your families and friends will join us for fun and relaxation in the Great Northern Catskills.  Give us a call at 518-734-4510 or send us an e-mail to info@thompsonhouse.com  if we can assist in setting up your vacation plans.

Warm regards,

July 4th, 2016

It was a beautiful July 4th, 2016 in the great Northern Catskills this year. Thank you to all the guests who were able to join us at The Thompson House. If you weren’t able to join us this year, we hope to see you next year.

Beautiful Weather

The weather before and after the 4th was amazing in 2016. The sun was out most of the time, the temperature was warm and consistent, and everyone was loving the pool. People enjoyed time on the golf course and spending time on our NEW miniature putting course.

Start a Tradition

Families and friends are continuing a great tradition of meeting at The Thompson House every year, at the same time for a wonderful vacation. If you and your family and friends haven’t started a tradition of meeting at The Thompson House, call us at 518-734-4510 or send an e-mail, to start one today.

There were 3 generations of some families here, grandparents, parents and grandchildren. It is amazing to think that another generation of The Thompson House guests will soon be running around and playing games, just like their parents did 20 something years ago, and their parent before them.

Parade

The parade put on by the Windham Hose Company was excellent as always. The Thompson House’s float this year was… Finding Dory. You can see most of the parade in the photos below, as well as some of the guests who were able to join us. Next year we hope to see you in these photos.

Season of Family 3

Aiden Eric Goettsche

February 23, 2016

Dasha and Kurt welcome a new member to their family. Aiden Eric Goettsche, a baby boy, born February 23, 2016. Dasha and Aiden are both doing well. Kurt is enjoying having someone new to tell jokes to. Maddox loves his little brother, and holds Aiden every time he gets a chance.

We are all doing well up here even though it still gets a little chilly at night.  John and Mickey did not make their usual trip to Florida this winter and opted instead for a 2 week cruise.  Lucky for them they were 1 week ahead of that recent famous cruise that encountered those 30 foot waves.  They did “a lot of nothing” and came home safely.  Brent and Evan are also doing well.  Brent purchased his first house last fall and is learning all the ins and outs of home renovation.  Evan is a coach at the EF Academy near Thornwood, New York  and is very proud of his undefeated soccer team.

Last  fall, Eric, Deb, Kurt, Dasha and Maddox enjoyed a wonderful trip to Russia.  The first week we stayed in Kovrov – Dasha’s home town. We had fun walking to the local markets and took some day trips around the region visiting the historic cities of Suzdal and Nizhny-Nougorod.  From Kovrov we took an overnight train to St. Petersburgh and had 4 days to see all the museums and even the ballet, Swan Lake.  From there a high speed train took us to Moscow for more sightseeing and visiting with more family and friends.  It was truly a trip of a lifetime.

Here at The Thompson House we are always trying to improve our property.  We finally said good bye to the green and white mini-bus and bought a larger van for trips around the mountain top.  The 18 hole putting green was removed last fall and Eric is attempting to build his own miniature golf course.  It may just be a few holes to start but will still hope to be fun for the whole family.  Also, for our guests’ that have enjoyed the popular Windham Path, plans are in the works to extend it all the way to Hensonville and west along South St. to Windham Mt. And – for our biking enthusiasts, more single track trails are being built near the Escarpment Trail area and Windham Mt. has plans to build 2 more downhill bike trails

We open our doors on May 27th this year for our 136th season and hope you and your families and friends will join us for fun and relaxation in the Great Northern Catskills.

Regards,

The Goettsche Families
