First, we hope you and everyone you care about are doing well. 2020 was a year we hope not to relive anytime soon. We missed out on seeing some of you, and the summer season didn’t feel the same. In our 140 years of being “The Resort with the Personal Touch,” 2020 certainly is one we hope never to experience again.

With heavy hearts and great sadness, we need to let you know on October 1, 2020, our beloved “Dad,” “Opa,” “Opa-Opa,” John passed away peacefully with his wife, Mickey, and children by his side. Family members who could travel were able to spend some time with him before he passed. Many stories, memories, tears, and laughs were shared. John was mowing the grounds three weeks before and told Maddox and Aiden it is now time for them to take over the mowing. In October, on what would have been John and Mickey’s 67th anniversary, Doug led a private family ceremony to honor John. More stories, memories, tears, and laughs were shared.

2020 was a year of much heartache and sadness for our family. Just after midnight on November 2, 2020, Dasha received the harrowing call that her mother, Tatiana, passed away in Russia due to complications from COVID-19. Dasha and her sister, Natasha, were on their way to Russia within hours. Devastatingly, due to the pandemic, they had to bury their beloved mother without their husbands or children by their side. Maddox and Aiden couldn’t wait for their Mom to come home, so our family could all grieve together. We hope that soon we will be able to go over to Russia and finally be able to say goodbye to “Mama,” “Baba,” “Tatiana.”

Last fall, we went public with the fact that The Thompson House is for sale. The resort has been on the market for a few years now, with only people within the industry being able to see the information and make an offer. Our goal is to find someone who shares our vision of “The Resort with the Personal Touch.” Not long after going public, we received an offer from the right person. Being a 6 generation business with a lot of history takes some time to go through all the documents and finalize the deal. Both the potential buyer and we feel that we are close to getting all the paperwork together.

Those of you who made a reservation already for this summer will notice that there isn’t the usual pre-confirmation in your Yellow Envelope. We are still holding your reservation, but we feel it is best for you to not send a deposit at this time. If the deal can not be made or as long as it is delayed, we will be here and ready to welcome you.

We understand that this uncertainty doesn’t help you make your summer vacation plans. If we are open, we really hope you can make it for your annual vacation at The Thompson House. If you feel like you need to make other plans, we understand entirely.

Either way, we want to thank you for 140 years of memories at The Thompson House. We cannot express how much all of you mean to our family.

When we know for sure what the future has in store for us, we will send out a new letter with the good news. For continuing updates, including adjustments during the continuing pandemic, please visit our website, ThompsonHouse.com.

Stay healthy and safe,

The Goettsche Family

Spring Has Sprung

Spring has arrived in the Catskill Mountains (even if it snowed this week). Expect a lot of pictures of blooming flowers on our social media feed. Maddox and Aiden are helping Eric clean up the ground and making everything look welcoming. Spring a beautiful time here in Windham, NY.

This newsletter was delayed, just like the “Yellow Envelopes.” Typically by now, we post the spring letter on our website for everyone to read. The “Yellow Envelopes” went out later this year, and I know not everyone has received theirs yet. The spring letter will be on our website sometime at the beginning of May. I plan on post a link to the spring letter in the next newsletter at the beginning of May.

As we work on spring cleaning, no one will be in the office answering the phone. The best way to reach us in the meantime is via email. I check the email several times almost every day. We are taking reservations for this coming summer season. Contact us if you are interested in making a reservation or getting information

We are currently at 818 followers, so we aren’t too far away.

After we get 900 followers, we have something special planned. We will live stream Kurt getting hit with 100 water balloons on Instagram. So, like and share our posts, and tell your friends to follow @thethompsonhouseresort on Instagram. We are having a lot of fun and we hope you enjoy it.

I hope you are all staying safe and healthy.

Winter is Finally Over

If you’ve tried to call us this week, you’ve noticed two things. No one is currently in the office full time, and we’ve changed our answering message to our spring greeting. The best way to contact us right now is by email, info@thompsonhouse.com.

Now that winter is over; I can say that I don’t remember the last time it was this consistently cold. There was snow on the ground almost the entire season. Windham Mountain was busy every day. There were people cross-country skiing and snowshoeing every day. It felt like a real winter season, and we enjoyed every minute of it.

#SUMMERREADY

Hopefully, you’ve read all of these newsletters and follow us on social media. In every letter for the past 2 months, I’ve mentioned that the Yellow Envelopes will be delayed this year. I hope none of you have panicked over them not arriving yet. We are finalizing the letter and rates now and should be sending everything to the printer this week. Yellow Envelopes should be arriving in your mailboxes at the beginning of April as expected.

If you have any questions in the meantime, please feel free to reach out to us at info@thompsonhouse.com or 518-734-4510. For more consistent updates and information, follow us on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter, or visit our website, ThompsonHouse.com. We’ve been running a lot of fun polls on Instagram, and if you don’t follow us, you’ve been missing out! When we hit 800 followers on Instagram, we’re going to post a fun fact you may not know and an even more fun poll. We’re only 7 away, so go now and share
The Thompson House with your friends.

I hope you are all staying safe and healthy.

Winter Continues in Windham, NY

This has been one of the most consistently cold winters we’ve had in the great Northern Catskill Mountains in a long time. It has been an excellent season for skiing, snowboard, cross-country skiing, and snowshoeing. This wonderful season seems to be continuing, so we’ve decided to stay open for an additional weekend. We will now be closing on March 21 for the winter season. There is only one more “Red Day” at Windham Mountain this season (March 13). Our tickets for “Green Days” start at just $85 each. Windham Mountain has “Green Day” tickets for as much as $130 each! Stay with us, enjoy a comfortable stay, and save on your skiing and snowboarding at Windham Mountain.

These next two weeks could be “Spring Skiing,” which is my favorite. Flying down Windham Mountain in a winter jacket and shorts is thrilling. Unless you fall, then it’s cold. Still fun but cold. This year, there are two food trucks at the base of Windham Mountain. A street taco truck and mac n’ cheese truck. If you follow us on Instagram and Facebook, you got to see Aiden enjoying a breakfast burrito when he went skiing with Eric (Opa as he calls him) last week.

This winter season isn’t over yet. We hope you can join us. Don’t forget to use the unique newsletter coupon code below to save even more! Sign up for our newsletter, for updates and unique specials.

Summer Season

We have been getting more frequent updates about what changes need to continue for this summer season. We are finalizing the summer rates now and almost done writing the spring letter. The “Yellow Envelopes” will be going out at the beginning of April. If you have a reservation already made for this summer, you’ll have your usual pre-confirmation in the envelope. If you need to make a reservation for this summer, please contact us. While we don’t have rates yet, we can still book something for you. Space in the dining room will be limited again this season, so booking now is important if you want to be on our meal package. We hope you can join us this summer for more memories made at The Thompson House.

More Winter Every Day

It has been a few years since we’ve had a winter that has last weeks, not to mention months. If you have the chance to go skiing, snow boarding, snow shoeing, or cross country skiing, this season has been fantastic. Not only has it been cold and snowy, but we haven’t had any rain. The “January Thaw” came and wen, and almost no one noticed. While we’ve had to do a lot of shoveling and plowing, it has been worth every minute.

With schools and jobs still remote, at least a few days a week, it is a great time to take a family vacation. Work from away in the great Northern Catskill Mountains with a stay at the Evergreen at The Thompson House this winter. We have lift tickets to Windham Mountain for every day this season, and we also now have tickets for tubing. If you haven’t been snow tubing at Windham Adventure Park, you are missing out. It is a lot of outdoor fun for all ages. You can add lift tickets and tubing tickets to your reservation when you book your family vacation at ThompsonHouse.com/book-now.

#SummerReady

If you didn’t get or read our last newsletter, we are getting ready for the summer season. Typically we spend President’s week finalizing our lists, spring letter, and everything else for the Yellow Envelopes. We are keeping some of our changes from last year, as well as returning to some normalcy. The Yellow Envelopes will be going out a little later than normal this year. Expect more updates on our social media pages (linked below) as we get closer, but we plan on sending them out at the end of March.

Whether you were able to make it last year or not, we hope you can join us this year. We’re excited to be opening for the summer season once the snow starts to melt in April.

Let It Snow!

This email was supposed to go out last week, but we got over 24 inches of fresh snow. We spent hours plowing and shoveling snow so that guests could enjoy some time in the Catskill Mountains. Conditions at Windham Mountain are fantastic right now, and the weather has been perfect as well.

The whole winter season so far has been great this year. The adjustments we’ve made for COVID-19 have made people feel more comfortable. Most of our rooms are accessed from the outside, so guests spend less time around others.

Next weekend starts the Presidents’ Holiday week in Windham. While Windham Mountain lift tickets have been sold out for a while now, we do have lift tickets available for each of our guests every day. There are only a few rooms left available during the holiday week. You can still call us to book at 518-734-4510 or go to ThompsonHouse.com/book-now.

Family Fun Every Season

Whether you and your family are looking to head to the slopes in the winter, go hiking in the spring, splash in the pool in the summer, or pick apples in the fall, The Thompson House is the place to be. As you can tell from above, winter is still going strong in the Catskill Mountains, but we’re starting to get ready for the summer season. We have started putting rates together for this summer and are working on our annual spring letter.

We know how eager everyone is to receive their yellow envelope and plan their vacation to The Thompson House. With the COVID-19 pandemic still going on and some uncertainty about hotel restrictions, there will be a delay in sending the yellow envelopes this year. We made many adjustments to our operations for last summer, and we expect some of those adjustments to continue this summer.

One of the adjustments we plan to continue is limiting the number of people in the dining room. If you plan on staying with us this summer with our meal package and haven’t already made a reservation, making a reservation soon is encouraged. Space and dates with our meal package will be limited—Call 518-734-4510 or email, info@thompsonhouse.com, to inquire.

We hope you all have a happy and healthy Thanksgiving!
This is the unofficial end to fall, and our small town is already looking forward to the winter season. There are still many unknowns about the winter season, but we do know we will be opening in December. As of right now, our goal is to open on December 18, but that could change depending on the conditions of the mountain. Like our summer season, we will be operating with modifications to ensure our guests’ and employees’ health and safety. We have put up a barrier at the front desk, there will be minimal contact between guests and staff, no breakfast will be served, no one will enter guest’s rooms after they have checked in (unless there is an emergency), and more. You can find more information about our modifications on our winter website.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, Windham Mountain will be operating with modifications to keep their guests safe as well. The one thing that hasn’t changed is we will have discount lift tickets for every day Windham Mountain is open this season. Since tickets will be limited this season, we recommend ordering your tickets ahead of time, either through us or the Windham Mountain website.

We look forward to seeing you this winter season for some fun in the snow in the great northern Catskill Mountains.
