What a Way to Start the Year!

This has been one of the coldest January’s we’ve had in Windham, NY in years. Several nights below zero degrees Fahrenheit, which is great for our ice skating rink and snow making. Both Windham and Hunter Mountain have been making snow non-stop for almost the entire month. There are so many trails open at both mountains, you’ll need more than a weekend to ski it all.

As you can see from the photos, the snow is falling in here at the Evergreen at The Thompson House. A nice covering of snow has made for a lot of fun outdoor activities. There is plenty of area  and snow nearby for cross country skiing, snowshoeing, sleigh riding, and a snowball fight. The great northern Catskill Mountains and a beautiful site year round, and you have to see them covered in snow.

Learn How to Ski

Great conditions, make a great time to learn how to ski. You are never too old or too young to learn how to ski. Opening the winter of 2013/14 Windham Mountain expanded their beginner’s area and added two new carpet lifts. For this winter (2014/15) Hunter Mountain expanded their children’s area. Now both Windham and Hunter Mountains offer a great place to learn how to ski and great instructors to help you learn. The new carpet lifts and expanded area make it easier and safer for everyone.

Maddox is learning how to ski and he is only 2. What’s your excuse?

As everyone knows by now, a Nor’easter is on the way and that means you need to ski. We’ve waited all season for a storm like this to hit the great northern Catskill Mountains, and not it is here. Get to the Evergreen at The Thompson while you still can, and before the roads are too difficult to drive on. We want everyone to be safe, so don’t take any unnecessary risks.

Sledding at the Evergreen at The Thompson House

Natural snow means more than just great downhill skiing, but it also mean other outdoor activities are going to be better. Our on site sleigh riding hill will be ready for all those staying here at the Evergreen at The Thompson House. We have a light over the hill, so you can have fun sledding into the night. There are sleds here for our guests to use, but we do recommend you bring your own if you have the opportunity.

If you want to get off of our property, you can also go cross country skiing and snowshoeing at many locations around Windham, NY. You can find out more about these activities on our website. If you need to rent snowshoes contact Windham Mountain Outfitters, and if you need to rent cross country skis contact Windham Mountain Resort.

Don’t miss out on this perfect opportunity to get out of work and get on the slopes. We look forward to seeing you soon.
