What a Way to Start the Year!

This has been one of the coldest January’s we’ve had in Windham, NY in years. Several nights below zero degrees Fahrenheit, which is great for our ice skating rink and snow making. Both Windham and Hunter Mountain have been making snow non-stop for almost the entire month. There are so many trails open at both mountains, you’ll need more than a weekend to ski it all.

As you can see from the photos, the snow is falling in here at the Evergreen at The Thompson House. A nice covering of snow has made for a lot of fun outdoor activities. There is plenty of area  and snow nearby for cross country skiing, snowshoeing, sleigh riding, and a snowball fight. The great northern Catskill Mountains and a beautiful site year round, and you have to see them covered in snow.

Learn How to Ski

Great conditions, make a great time to learn how to ski. You are never too old or too young to learn how to ski. Opening the winter of 2013/14 Windham Mountain expanded their beginner’s area and added two new carpet lifts. For this winter (2014/15) Hunter Mountain expanded their children’s area. Now both Windham and Hunter Mountains offer a great place to learn how to ski and great instructors to help you learn. The new carpet lifts and expanded area make it easier and safer for everyone.

This past week has been extremely cold! Cold as in the only double digits we saw all week were in the negatives. While not great for skiing or riding the lifts, it is still better than weather that is too hot. The best part of cold weather is snow making. Windham Mountain has been making snow nonstop for the whole week. We love seeing the snow gun shooting snow into the air and most trails covered in snow.

The extremely cold weather means that our ice skating rink is solid. The smooth glass like surface is ready for skaters.

Now to the savings. You still have time to book a room for this weekend. If you stay Friday, January 9, and you decide to stay Saturday, January 10, the rate is 50% off. Yes, 50% off of the second night. We also have a new special to announce. As of today, if you stay any Friday and Saturday night, non-holiday at the regular rate, we’ll take 30% off of the regular mid-week rate if you all reserve you room Sunday night.

There is more snow expected for Monday, so we’ll keep you posted on the natural snow in the area.

Think snow,

The first real snow fall of the year is here! There is so much snow falling right now that you can’t see Windham Mountain. The snow plows are making sure that the road are clear for safe passage. If you are already in Windham and don’t feel like venturing out onto the roads, we do have a couple of rooms open tonight. Drive safe!

Think snow!

The cold weather is back! There were a few warm days and a little bit of rain, that wiped out all of the natural snow. Fortunately, both Windham and Hunter Mountains had incredible established, so there is still plenty of skiing. The small amount of rain did help fill the snow making ponds, and now that it is cold again the mountains are making more snow! We’re also getting some more natural snow, so hopefully there will be cross country skiing and snowshoeing again soon.

With New Year’s Eve just around the corner, it’s time to get your plans set. Windham Mountain and many of the restaurant in Windham will be having special dinners, live music, and fireworks. We still have a few rooms left available, and our anytime discount vouchers are valid all week. We look forward to seeing you.
